Years ago I was interviewed by a local Colorado radio station pertaining to my work with the unhoused people and "Spreading Smiles & Sandwiches". I had been involved with Spreading Smiles & Sandwiches (for which I was a co-founder) for 7 years at that time. But during that interview I realized that my passion for helping others was due to my upbringing from my mother. You see, I was raised by a very caring mother who helped provide housing to many in need. Initially it was a relative in need, then students in need… She didn’t preach, she showed by example. It was at that time I became aware that what I was doing was stewardship. It is about connections within the community between those who are in need and those who are compassionate. So my initial involvement with helping those experiencing homelessness grew to helping anyone and everyone in the community with needs.
In addition to my mother being such a role model, I have tried to emulate those others in the world that advocated for those that are marginalized and left to fend for themselves. Great people like Mahatman Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Jr., and John Lewis (known for "Good Trouble"). All advocating for the betterment of society and awareness of injustice within the world.
While I may not personally see it come to be; I long for a world that lives together peacefully, without violence, and working for that betterment for all, not just for those that share their own viewpoints.
