Advocating for the Indigenous People

My involvement in advocating for the Indigenous people included speaking out against the injustice of the government's involvement in disregarding the rights of our Native United States Americans with regards to their local environment. More specifically the threats to the water supply of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and millions downstream, potential damage to sacred and ancestral lands of the Sioux, contributions to climate change through transporting fossil fuels, and negative economic and environmental consequences from spills and pipeline operations (commonly known as NO DAPL).   Additionally, I advocate and support the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) by speaking out to their struggles with high rates of assault, abduction, and murder of tribal women members.  Finally, I participated in the successful rally that led to the mandatory mascot name changes to eliminate offensive American Indian-themed names in public schools.
